Listing products on Amazon (Beginner guide)

Crafting your Amazon listing can be hard. Customers are looking for a product that will meet their needs and you want to ensure that your products offer them exactly what they're looking for. If you don't think about your customers, they won't think about you when they need to make a purchase. Here is a guide that will take you step-by-step in creating the most accurate listing possible!

Listing products on Amazon (Beginner guide)

Amazon is a very competitive marketplace for sellers. It's not enough to just put your product up and hope that it sells.

You need to be proactive in marketing your products, including taking the time to fully optimize your Amazon listing.

1. What is an Amazon listing?

Amazon listing is a page on Amazon that describes one or more products. Every product has its own Amazon listing.

2. What does an Amazon seller need to do for the item description of the new product?

For selling on Amazon, you need to create a title of the listing, description, and bullet points about your product, offer related products together with the listing (listing enhancement), make sure there are at least 7-10 pictures (including images of key features).

So if you are trying to sell anything on eBay or Amazon then you can check bestsellerssellerreviews.com.  They have a lot many reviews which will help you in business in the future.

3. How to List Products on Amazon

Step 1: Log in to your seller account and go to the inventory tab.

Step 2: Click Add a Product in the "Inventory" Tab.

Step 3: You will jump on "Find your products in Amazon's catalogue" page as shown below.

Here you can find a similar product that is already listed for sale or new products from other categories which are most popular among customers.

Off you go, now you can sell your products online: congratulations!

You are probably buzzing with excitement about all the potential sales that are just waiting to be made.

But there is one important thing you should remember before getting carried away by visions of dollar signs.

To get those sales, you first need customers who are aware of your product or service and willing to actually buy it.

And this is where having a well-optimized Amazon listing comes into play.

But what does "Amazon optimization" mean?

It is a combination of on-page elements and keyword optimization that works together to attract (and therefore secure) more sales.

Here are a few tips for optimizing your Amazon product listings:

1. Use Keywords

Keyword optimization is the most important part of any online marketing strategy these days.

So it should come as no surprise that using keywords is very crucial when it comes to listing products on Amazon as well.

With that being said, choosing the right words can be tricky!  To help you with this, check out keyword research tools such as JungleScout or Helium 10.

2. High-Resolution Images

Include High-Resolution Images and Videos.

Before shopping online for anything, customers want to know what he or she will buy.

3. Amazon PPC

Amazon PPC

It is a search engine advertising program for sellers to promote their products by bidding on keyword searches.

Here sellers will bid on keywords related to their products and if someone types in that word or phrase they are searching for, then your ad will appear there.

This way you can get more exposure for your item and hopefully sell more units!

4. How to Optimize your listing?

Now, if you are ready to get started and optimize your listing for maximum conversion, choose strong keywords.

Once you know what you want to rank highly for in terms of both organic search traffic and Amazon's search engine, it is time to work on the basics.

Title & Description

To start with keyword optimization, there are two places where you need a lot of concrete input: the title and the description.

3 Steps For Making Your Title Optimized & Eye-catching

There is a method that sellers can use to optimize their Amazon listings, and that's by working on the titles themselves.

So in this section, we will go through a proven process for creating optimized product titles!

Step 1: Brainstorm Keywords

You need to start out with keyword research.

For this part of the process, use Amazon's very own Keyword Tool.

This tool is basically an extension to Amazon's search bar. So, when you type in keywords into the search bar, it searches and shows you related terms and then shows you how many times they have been searched for over the past 3 months as well as how strong they are (as a percentage).

The great thing about this free tool is that it gives you a quick overview of the competition for your niche as well as a good idea of what people are searching for.

It is an excellent place to start.

Step 2: Narrow Down Your List

Now that you have a long list of potential keywords, it is time to narrow it down and select exactly which ones to use in your product listing.

The best way to do this is by using a keyword tool like Keyword Tool.

This tool shows you:

  • the number of searches per month (the higher the number, the better)
  • how difficult it will be to rank for these terms (Amazon actually takes into account several factors when it comes to keyword difficulty)
  • the Amazon Best Sellers Rank of any given product that is already using this keyword.  This makes it very easy for you to select your keywords because if another seller has gotten to page one for a given term, then it is not necessarily worth fighting over.

Step 3: Write Your Title

So now that you have your list narrowed down, you can start writing out titles.

One thing that will help you here is to use my main keywords as often as possible throughout the title without making them seem forced or out of place.

For example, instead of saying "Black Heart Dog Collar" which would be a horrible title, say something like "Sparkly Black Heart Dog Collar" which is a bit more convincing as well as eye-catching.

4. Why it is important to list competitively priced products on Amazon?

Increasing sales on Amazon

Price is a huge factor in what people are most likely to buy, and it makes sense.

The reason is that if you are spending money on an item or service, there better be some value there.

"You get what you pay for!"

This concept can be applied to almost any situation where someone is spending their own money.

This is why extremely cheap items can look suspicious.

For products with ridiculous prices, the question that goes through every buyer's mind is "Why did not they just cut costs somewhere else?"

And usually, the answer lies in the quality of the product itself (if we are talking about physical goods).

In reality, this concept applies to services as well: people will always try to get the most value for their money.

All of these things come into play when we are looking at how competitive a price should be.

Basically, you want to make a price that is very similar to your competitors in order to have the best chance of selling on Amazon.

So if there are products on Amazon that offer more than what you are looking to provide (and they still have good reviews and customer feedback), then it is time to step up your game and offer something comparable for a slightly lower cost, but with better quality.

Sure, you might not sell as many units initially, but if those first sales turn into repeat buyers and word-of-mouth, then you can have a very successful business.

5. Tips for getting high-quality images of your product

One of the most important parts of creating an Amazon product listing is finding good-quality images for your product.

The better the image, the more likely it is that someone will buy from you instead of another seller (even if their products are more expensive).

It may seem like a difficult task to get high-quality images, but thankfully there are several ways to do this without breaking the bank or hiring a professional photographer.

First, review any videos on YouTube made by sellers who have a similar product for sale.

This will show you what kind of camera they used and how to capture pictures in the same manner.

This is helpful because it means you do not have to waste money buying expensive equipment when you do not even know if your product will sell well in the first place.

Better to spend a few dollars on a video than hundreds trying to take professional quality pictures of something you do not yet know is worthwhile!

Alternatively, use Amazon's own picture service, which allows sellers to upload images into their inventory descriptions.

If you look at Amazon and find an image similar in size (this seems to help the most), then it might be worth submitting your own images in order to make sure that they are as high quality as possible.

3D rendering

3D rendering on Amazon is also very important, mainly because customers cannot interact with the item by touching it or seeing it in person.

In this case, a good quality image is almost more important than the actual product itself!

What is 3D rendering?

3D rendering

3D rendering is the technique of generating an image from a 3D model, or at least illustrations based on 3D models.

It's mainly used for animated films, advertising, television, and video games but can also be used in fly-through and walkthrough videos of buildings, cities, and other complicated structures.

There are a few ways to do 3D rendering, it all depends on your budget and technical skills:

  1. You can purchase ready-made 3D models from various sites that offer them by thousands such as Artboard.
  2. If you have some experience with computer graphics you might also try assembling the model yourself (for example in Blender). It takes more time but yields better quality.

To make it simple? Use platforms such as Fiverr, Upwork, and Behance where you can look for the best service providers.

Conclusion

Selling on Amazon is easy, but making money there is not.

You have to continuously work hard at it and never give up.

Just because one product doesn't sell well or some other seller takes your business away from you with a lower price, it's not the end of the world.

As a seller, you need to remain positive even in the face of adversity.

When you first start selling on Amazon, you might not have an idea on what the competition is.

In some cases, you might evaluate your competition when some sellers come along and obliterate your entire inventory within just a few weeks.

The thing that should keep you  going is to know that once you find a way to compete with those sellers then you could make more money than them.

Work hard and learn how you could compete with them.

One of the most inspiring stories about competition in Amazon comes from Tommy Mottola who rose up from selling t-shirts out of his garage to become one of the most successful record industry executives ever.  He had a net worth in excess of $600 million at one point.

In an interview, he said: "If you're not number one or two in your market, you don't stand a chance."

That's not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, it's good news for sellers.

If you are able to make the top two spots in your market, then that's a pretty big achievement.

Why? Because a lot of competitors still won't be successful at all because they have no idea what they're doing and how to stay ahead.

If you learn from them and take their mistakes as something positive, then it makes it even easier for you to do well on Amazon!
